CODE VIOLATION IN SOUTH FLORIDA
If the authority having jurisdiction -AHJ (Local Government) issues a code violation, it will enforce remedies to obtain compliance, those remedies vary depending on the nature of the violation, the types of evidence obtained in documenting the violation and the severity of the health or environmental threat posed by the violation and the intent to commit the violation.
There are three (3) main types of Building Code Violations:
• Work without Building Permit
Building without a permit can have serious consequences, including:
- Fines
- Demolition
- Home Owner’s Insurance
- Difficulty selling
- Safety risks
- Legal action
• Expired Building Permit
In Florida, a building permit expires if work is not started within 180 days of the permit being issued, or if the work is suspended or abandoned for 180 days.
• Unsafe Structures
A structure may be considered unsafe if it is dangerous to people or the public, or if it violates building codes.
